PROGRAMME REVIEW
The MD programme at PUGScM has been developed to meet both Malaysian needs and international expectations. Various teaching-learning methods are utilised in achieving the learning outcomes of the programme, which include lectures, tutorials, small group discussion, team-based learning, research projects, clinical sessions with standardised/simulated patients, clinical sessions with real patients in hospital settings.
Teaching-learning in the first two years of the four year MD programme is targeted at students being provided with a strong footing in the basic medical sciences while being provided with early clinical exposure. The final two years is carried out by a series of clinical clerkships in the various medical and surgical disciplines. Intersession courses are conducted throughout the four years of medical school.
Our coursework utilises an online Moodle platform, which provides the student with our exclusive curriculum and direct access to our esteemed panel of lecturers, while delivering numerous exam and quiz questions, as well as offering each student a uniquely tailored step-by-step plan and exclusive test-taking strategies for their success.
The unique combination of our exclusive content, as well as student freedom, flexibility, full-time access, and support from our panel of expert lecturers is what sets the PUGScM MD programme apart from others. This gives our students a massive advantage on the road to success on their exam and during the match, if they wish to be matched for residency. Our track record for success is evident not only in the number of student success stories we have accumulated over the past three years, but also in having an over 95% student success rate in the 1st graduated cohort and over 80% success rate in the second graduate cohort, for USMLE, for both Step 1 and Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS. Our 3rd cohort, graduated in 2017.
We take each student and evaluate them thoroughly from their first week of their MD programme, ensuring that their areas of concern are addressed immediately, thus allowing us to guide our students both as a whole and on an individual basis. Our programme covers all aspects of the ‘testable’ material as set by the USMLE organization and teaches students what they need to know in order to master the exact skills and strategies required to pass the exam. By purposefully keeping our class sizes small, we provide each student with complete immersion into the different clinical scenarios we present for maximum skill building and success on the actual Step 2 CS exam.
