Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in English program of Lincoln University College, Malaysia (LUC) is designed to help the students to maximize the benefits of research by advancing fundamental knowledge and contributing to efficacious public policy, improved health outcomes, economic prosperity, social cohesion, international development, community identity, arts, culture and the quality of life. LUC not only provides a supportive research environment in which scholars at every stage of their career, can flourish and develop but also prepares a student for full participation as a scholar and literary critic in the profession.
Program Aim
The English Department seeks to teach and promote an understanding of both the significance and the history of British and American literature and to foster an appreciation of the richness and variety of texts in the language. It offers rigorous training in interpretive thinking and precise expression. This degree course enables the students to go for various English and its related jobs and aids one to keep pace with the expanding frontiers of knowledge. This doctoral degree provides research training relevant to the present social and economic objectives of the country.
Career Opportunities
Our doctoral program prepares students for academic careers at colleges and universities and for non-academic work in related fields. The faculty in the Department offer extensive preparation in methods for working in English Studies and supplement the official curriculum with a series of professional development workshops and colloquia, including sessions on developing academic, “alternative-academic,” and non-academic career search plans.
After completion of this course the students are expected to find jobs and work as:

Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements :
- Passed Master’s degree (Level 7, MOH) received by the Lincoln University College Senate; or
- Other qualifications are accepted by the Lincoln University College Senate as equivalent to a Master’s degree (Level 7, MOH).
- Other equivalent qualification as recognized by the Malaysian Government.
English Requirements :
International students must have proof of good proficiency in verbal and written English. For example, International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or its equivalent. If a student does not meet this requirement, HEPs must offer English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme.
