COURSE OVERVIEW
THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE offers the Master of Science (Finance) which was introduced in 2001. This programme aims to provide students with both practical skills and theoretical knowledge that integrate Islamic concepts and values to enable them to become competent practitioners in both Islamic and conventional finance. The Department’s strengths are in the areas of Islamic banking and finance, applied finance and general finance.
- Option 1: BY COURSEWORK 42 credit hours of coursework (4 core courses + 10 elective courses)
- Option 2: COURSEWORK AND RESEARCH (Mixed Mode) 12 credit hours of coursework + 30 credit hours of dissertation (2 core courses + 2 elective courses + 30 credit hours of dissertation)

Detailed entry requirements
A relevant Bachelor’s degree with good grades from an accredited institution of higher learning or any other certificates recognised to be equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree and with relevant professional experience.
English Language
In addition to the Kulliyyah requirements, an applicant must produce satisfactory proof of proficiency of English Language by:
- The Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 550 or
- The International English Language Testing Services (IELTS) with a score of 6.0 or
- The IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT) with a minimum score 6.0
