This is a research-centred course with a focus on a number of highly valued key skills within the industry and in academia, and is particularly suited to high achieving students who have completed a relevant undergraduate degree.
Throughout your study, you’ll be guided to approach practical problems from a broader intellectual perspective. You’ll undertake research methodology training and carry out an independent research project in your selected discipline, working closely with a supervisor who will provide you with individual guidance and academic counselling.

This course consists of a combination of coursework and research. In the coursework component, you’ll develop advanced theoretical and/or technical knowledge of your discipline and appropriate research methodologies. In the research component, you’ll plan and execute a research project under the individual guidance of an academic supervisor.

Stepping stone to a higher degree by research
This course can lead you to a research degree. If you graduate with first- or second-class honours, you may be able to enter the Monash Doctoral Program (PhD) without first completing a master’s degree by research.
To enter Monash University, you must satisfy particular academic, English language and age requirements.
To apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Commerce, you must have completed at least one of the following:
- an Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with a distinction (70%) average or above in 24 points of studies at level three in the relevant area of business, or
- obtained a minimum average grade of 60% of a postgraduate degree in a relevant area of business.
