Increase Needs of Cyber Security & Networks Professionals
According to a report by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the demand for cybersecurity professionals in Malaysia is expected to grow at a rate of 10% annually, with a market size of RM4.5 billion by 2025. Additionally, the country’s networking industry is projected to reach RM34.4 billion by 2024, driven by the growth of 5G networks and the increasing adoption of cloud computing. To support this growth, the Malaysian government has established the National Cyber Security Policy and launched the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, which aims to enhance the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure and create a pool of skilled professionals.
In the global scene, a report by Cybersecurity Ventures states that, global cybercrime costs are expected to reach $10.5 trillion annually by 2025. Additionally, a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimates that cybercrime and cyber espionage together result in a global cost of $600 billion annually.
Strength of the Programme
The BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Cyber Security and Networks) programme emphasizes networking and security, and builds on a foundation of technology and software development. Students will learn about protocols, network design, distributed applications, and defending against cyber attacks. The course offers opportunities for academic, professional, and practical study, including a paid placement year and industry certifications. The computer science department is well-established and highly regarded, with excellent facilities, research background, and links to industry. Graduates have gone on to work at top organizations such as Siemens, EE, and Lloyds Bank.
Entry requirements
A pass in Matriculation or Foundation Studies with minimum CGPA of 2.00 or Pass in STPM or equivalent with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any of the following 2 subjects at SPM level or equivalent;
a. Additional Mathematic;
OR
b. Mathematics and either one subject of Science, Technology or Engineering
Passed STPM in Science stream or equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in one Mathematics subject and one Science / ICT subject;
Diploma in Computer Science OR Software Engineering OR Information Technology OR Information Systems or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.5;
Any Diploma in science and technology with a minimum CGPA of 2.50.
