ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME

This programme will provide you with a solid grounding in the design, construction, and management of civil engineering works and equip you with the technical knowledge, communication skills, and ability to operate as a civil engineer within the construction industry. Graduates will not only be multi-talented but also versatile in nature.

Civil engineering is a branch of knowledge that deals with the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of structures and infrastructures for the benefit of mankind. Civil engineering is one of the oldest engineering disciplines and, therefore, one of the most popular.

Is this programme for me?

  • If you are a determined person, energetic, ambitious and willing to take challenges, then engineering is for you.

  • If you like to create, innovate and improve, then engineering is definitely a right choice for you.

  • If you like to create wealth, contribute to society and make life better, then engineering is the right profession for you.

What will I learn?

You will learn very interesting things about what you always see around you. For example, you will study the characteristics of concrete, soil, water, rainfall, traffic, environment, etc.

Then you will get to explore the design process either manually or using software tools. Lastly, you will explore how to design a project from the start until its completion.

What should I expect?

Civil Engineering is a rewarding and challenging profession which aims at building and maintaining the physical infrastructure of our society for the benefit of humanity. The majority of the infrastructure that surrounds us is the work of a civil engineer. IUKL students are able to develop the technical knowledge, communication skills, and ability to operate as a future civil engineer.

What will I do?

Civil engineers design and build bridges, roads, railways, and tunnels. They design and build tall structures and large buildings such as multi-storey car parks, train stations, ports and stadiums. Once completed, civil engineers are involved in the operation and maintenance of these structures.

Professional Recognition

This programme is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and recognized by the Malaysian Government. EAC is a delegated body by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as the only recognized accrediting body for engineering degree programmes offered in Malaysia.

This degree is also internationally recognised under the Washington Accord, a multi-national agreement which recognises the substantial equivalency of engineering degree programmes accredited by the responsible bodies in each of the current signatory countries.

List of Full Signatory Countries

Signatory status approved at IEAM 2022 on the basis of a virtual review, approval subject to conditions set out by the Washington Accord meeting.

List of Provisional Signatory Countries

** Provisional Signatories are recognised as having appropriate systems and processes in place to develop towards becoming a Full Signatory.

How does the professional recognition for this programme benefit me?

Recognition under the Washington Accord allows graduates to be recognised worldwide for career opportunities or for further education progression.

After graduation, an engineer needs to register with the Board of Engineers Malaysia to be a graduate engineer. After a few years of practical experience (supervised by a professional engineer), the graduate engineer can apply to sit for Professional Interview (with IEM). If he/she passes the Interview, he/she can apply to BEM to be a Professional Engineer that entitles him/her to use the title Ir.

BEM Circulars Related to Mandatory Registration with BEM

The Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is a federal statutory agency under the Ministry of Works Malaysia established under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (REA 1967). Amongst its primary roles are to register Graduate Engineer (GE), Engineering Technologist (ET), and Inspector of Works (IoW) and to regulate the professional conduct and practice of registered Persons to safeguard the safety, health and interest of the public.
