Course Overview
Bioinformatics is an advanced and up-to-date field combining both science and technology which promises a very bright future whereby it involves the disciplines of computer science, mathematics and biology. In accordance with this inclination, Bachelor of Computer Science (Bioinformatics) was introduced in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). This course has been specifically designed based on the input from academicians, government and private sectors (corporate and industries) to produce professional manpower (human resources) who expertise and specialized in Bioinformatics, which has the:
BIOINFORMATICS = BIOLOGY + INFORMATION SCIENCE (COMPUTER SCIENCE) + MATHEMATICS
- Ability to use technologies and computer software that can be applied in biological fields (biotechnology, pharmaceutical and agriculture), such as managing and analyzing biological data, biological data processing, modelling and simulation of biological processes, solving biological problems, conducting research, and etc..
- Capable of designing, developing, and testing technologies and computer software for usage in biological fields (biotechnology, pharmaceutical and agriculture), such as managing and analyzing biological data, biological data processing, modelling and simulating biological processes, solving biological problems, conducting research and etc..
- Ability to use and develop technologies and computer software to be applied in other fields (engineering, chemistry, accounting, management, etc.) which are needed by both government and private sectors.
