About This Programme

The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture programme allows students to learn creatively and technically via lectures, workshop, site visits, lab works, field trips and seminar. Bachelor of Landscape Architecture offers students vast opportunities in designing both man made and living environment using variety of elements in design. Landscape Architecture applies appropriate ‘building blocks’ such as hardscape and softscape to create various outdoor or indoor spatial environment to ensure fulfilment of functionality, practicality, balance, aesthetics and consideration of human users-the behaviour and their needs. Presently, Landscape Architecture role is becoming increasingly important and is frequently alongside with many design professionals and technical experts in the architecture field and the built environment industry.

Is this programme for me?

If you have interest in designs and are sensitive to the quality of the outdoor environment, you are suited for this programme.

In addition to that, good drawing skills are also essential.

Dealing with the outdoor space, you have to be creative, innovative, sensitive and effective as you do not only create spaces that are pleasant to the eye but also an environment that is safe and sustainable.

What will I learn?

This is a design based programme so students will be exposed to design projects in various fields including residential, parks, recreational design, community design, urban design, ecological, conservation and others.

The learning process involves design studio, site visits, hand drawing, computer programmes and creating models

What should I expect?

Students will be engaged with academic experts and industry practitioners by accessing their design projects throughout the semesters. This programme requires students to undergo internships to expose them to various fields and as a preparation for becoming Landscape Architects in the future.

What are the career prospects?

Landscape Architect is the main profession after graduating from this programme.

How much will I make?

The average salary for fresh graduates ranges from RM 2,000 to RM 3,000. However, the range differs based on student’s skills, experience and their ability.

The salary for Senior Landscape Architects would range from RM 5,000 to RM 7,000.

There are only six institutions that offers this programme, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. IUKL is one of them.

How is the programme here different compared to the other institutions? The programme structure itself, emphasizing on sustainable designs, constructions and technology, innovation as well as management.

A word of advice

Be sensitive with the outdoor environment since you are the ‘steward of the land’ in the future. Being passionate towards the landscape will drive you to succeed.

Landscape Architecture is not about planting trees and Landscape Architects are not glorified gardeners. The scope is beyond that.

Check If You Are Eligible

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  1. Pass STPM or GCE ‘A” Level with minimum of 2 principles OR;
  2. Pass UEC with a minimum of Gred B in 5 Subjects OR:
  3. Pass in Diploma in Landscape Architecture from recognised higher institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 OR;
  4. Pass in Diploma from a recognised higher institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 OR;
  5. Pass in Matriculation/Foundation from recognised higher institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 OR; Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Government. Additional requirements:
  6. Drawing TEst/ Portfolio needed if without a Pass in Drawing subjects.
