Doctor of Education
The Doctor of Education (EdD) is designed equip scholar-practitioners to connect educational theories and research evidence with educational practice.
Students will analyse, critique and develop tools of inquiry in meeting the challenges of 21st century education. The degree is targeted at individuals at mid-level and senior positions in various educational settings and include the following:

  • School principals and headmasters / headmistresses in preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools both in the private and government sectors.
  • Teachers, teacher leaders, senior assistants, head of departments, curriculum specialists, educational technologists, school improvement specialists, assessment specialists and so forth
  • State and district education administrators, organisers of schools, private education heads, school inspectors and so forth.

    Upon successful completion of the Doctor of Education (EdD) programme, you will be

    • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of concepts, principles, theories and best practices in education
    • Think critically and creatively in solving various types of educational problems effectively and efficiently
    • Practice good interpersonal and managerial skills when working collaboratively when solving educational problems
    • Communicate effectively educational knowledge and best practices to peers, the scholarly community and society at large through publications and other media
    • Use digital technologies in meeting the challenges of education in the 21st century.
    • Lead effectively and efficiently adopting best practices and assuming the roles and responsibilities and good educational leaders.
    • Be involved in entrepreneurial activities within and beyond the education sector
    • Engage in practices that are ethical and professional

The Doctor of Education (EdD) is made of 80 credits, consisting of 3 compulsory courses, 2 courses in the discipline core, 3 courses in the chosen area of concentration, 1 elective course and the Thesis as shown below:

Entry Requirements

Candidate must possess the following:

  • A Masters degree
  • Other equivalent qualifications recognised by Senate of the University

English Language Competency for International Students:

All International students who intend to pursue the EdD programme are required to fulfil the academic entry requirements for the programme concerned as well as the English Language Competency Requirement as follows:

English Language Competency Requirement for International Students

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Minimum score 5.0 or
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT) – minimum score 500 or
  • Other recognised equivalent test

EXEMPTION:
However, an international student from a country using English as an official medium of instruction or from an academic institution using English as a medium of instruction, shall normally be exempted from the above requirement
