The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology course is concerned with the accumulation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to the design, construction, operation, support and maintenance of information technology (IT) solutions.

This course will provide students with entry-level skills and introduces techniques used in the design and construction of IT solutions, as well as the research skills needed to assess the effectiveness of a solution or technology.

Students will gain specialist skills and become capable of working with information technology solutions at an entry level. This course provides graduates with knowledge and skills allowing them to undertake professional work in field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and as a pathway for research and further learning.

Course structure and duration

To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma of Information Technology students must complete 150 credit points comprising:

  • Five (5) Core units (62.5 credit points)
  • Five (5) Specialisation units (75 credit points)
  • One (1) elective (12.5 credit points)

The duration of study is 15 months full-time. Students will undergo two long semesters of 9 weeks and three short semesters of 6 weeks. Each unit of study has a minimum 6 hours of class contact time per week or its equivalence.

Course learning outcome

On successful completion of this Course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a coherent understanding of the fundamental aspects of ICT solutions including the appropriate project management techniques
  • Identify, analyse and evaluate a range of potential solutions to problems by reflecting on associated trade-offs, work with stakeholders to propose appropriate solutions, communicate effectively the underlying value, and implement ICT solutions to achieve desired stakeholder expectations
  • Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in the application of knowledge and skills to new situations, to solve complex problems, to respond to ethical organisational and IT issues and dilemmas, and to think rigorously and independently
  • Demonstrate the professional application of a range of appropriate tools, techniques, and methods relevant to facilitate construction of information technology systems
  • Apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan and execute a piece of research with independence demonstrating the ability to analyse, process and synthesise complex information

Units of study

To be eligible for the award of Graduate Diploma of Information Technology, students must complete 12 units of study (150 credit points) comprising of 10 units of study (worth 12.5 credit points each) and one (1) double unit of study (worth 25 credit points).

Entry Requirements

  • A recognized Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.75, or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment process, or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and a minimum of 5 years working experience in a relevant field may be accepted.

English Requirements

  • IELTS 6.5 (no individual band below 6.0)
  • TOEFL (Internet based) of 79 (Reading no less than 18; Writing no less than 20)
