Leap into the future.
Artificial intelligence (AI) professionals are highly sought after around the world – and this demand is only growing.
Delivered by some of the best minds in the field, the Master of Artificial Intelligence course gives you the specialist knowledge and adaptability to move to the forefront of AI transformation. It empowers you to design, develop, and operate AI-based products and intelligent systems for the advancement of everything from healthcare, agriculture and education to manufacturing, law and financial services.
This artificial intelligence program’s core units explore deep learning, machine learning, natural language processing, human-computer interactions and modern optimisation techniques. At the same time, you will deepen your understanding of best practices and ethical issues of AI, as well as its far-reaching impact on organisations, societies and the world.
Part A. Foundations for advanced artificial intelligence studies (24 credit points)
These studies will provide an orientation to the field of artificial intelligence at graduate level. They are intended for students whose previous qualification is not in a cognate field.
- Introduction to databases
- Algorithms and programming foundations in Python
- Introduction to computer architecture and networks
- Mathematical foundations for data science.
Part B. Core master’s studies (48 credit points)
These studies will provide an orientation and draw on best practices within the broad field of artificial intelligence practice and research. You will gain a critical understanding of theoretical and practical issues related to artificial intelligence. Your studies will focus on fundamentals, core knowledge, and the application of artificial intelligence.
- Fundamentals of artificial intelligence
- Project management
- IT research methods
- Machine learning
- Deep learning
- Modelling discrete optimisation problems
- Multi agent systems and collective behaviour
- Intelligent image and video analysis OR Malicious AI.
Part C. Advanced practice (24 credit points)
These studies focus on professional or scholarly work that can contribute to the portfolio of professional development in AI. You will have two options:
- A coursework program involving advanced study and an industry experience studio project.
- A research pathway including a thesis. If you wish to use this master’s course as a pathway to a higher degree by research you should take this option.
More information
The Monash University Handbook has detailed information about the course structure and requirements.
Quality education
Monash University is ranked #34 in the world for data science and artificial intelligence (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024). Your degree will be recognised wherever you want to work or study.
Take the lead
Monash is the first and only university to offer a Master of Artificial Intelligence course in Malaysia. Hone your knowledge and skills in this emerging field ahead of your peers.
Enter a new field
You don’t need a degree in IT to study the Master of Artificial Intelligence course. If you’re looking for a career change or a new challenge, this course includes foundation units in programming, computer architecture and mathematics or statistics that will give you the knowledge needed to complete the course.
Accelerate your study
If you have an IT-related qualification from previous studies, you may be exempted from the foundation units and graduate in 1.5 years of full-time study.
Get practical
You’ll study a broad range of technical subjects related to the fundamentals of AI and applied AI skills, which will prepare you to tackle real-world challenges.
Personalise the course
You can either complete a research project under the guidance of an internationally-recognised expert (as a potential pathway to a PhD) or engage in an industry experience studio project. This hands-on training lets you implement everything you’ve learned and ensures your job readiness upon graduation.
Flexibility
Choose between full-time or part-time study. As a part-time student, you’ll have access to the same resources as your full-time peers.
